Mattias and Pablo Klopfenstein share much more than a blood bond: the same exacting musical standards, an ever-awakening curiosity, and a common passion for jazz. Saxophonist and pianist, they trained side by side, feeding off each other's experiences, influences and hard work.

À 19 ans, lorsqu’il entend pour la première fois Charlie Parker, Mattias Klopfenstein est captivé. Ce moment déclenche chez lui une fascination pour l’improvisation et le langage du bebop. Il choisit alors de plonger pleinement dans cette esthétique exigeante, développant son jeu de saxophoniste alto en s'inspirant de figures tels que Sonny Stitt, Bird et Canonball. Malgré les conseils de ses professeurs de s’orienter vers le jazz modal, il décide de s’ancrer dans la tradition bebop pour en explorer toutes les subtilités.
Avec le temps, son univers s’ouvre à d’autres influences, notamment le jazz modal à la Coltrane et des formes plus libres, tout en maintenant un lien fort avec la tradition. Ce parcours lui permet de conjuguer rigueur, liberté et expressivité.
Reconnu pour sa sonorité singulière, sa créativité et son sens de l’écoute, il apporte à chaque projet une forte identité musicale et une réelle sensibilité artistique.
When Mattias Klopfenstein first heard Charlie Parker at the age of 19, he was captivated. It triggered a fascination for improvisation and the language of bebop. He chose to immerse himself fully in this demanding aesthetic, developing his alto saxophone playing by drawing inspiration from figures such as Sonny Stitt, Bird and Canonball. Despite his teachers' advice to move towards modal jazz, he decided to anchor himself in the bebop tradition, exploring all its subtleties.
Over time, his universe opened up to other influences, notably Coltrane-style modal jazz and freer forms, while maintaining a strong link with tradition. This path enables him to combine rigor, freedom and expressiveness.
Renowned for his unique sound, creativity and listening skills, he brings a strong musical identity and artistic sensibility to each project.

Pianiste professionnel, sideman mais aussi compositeur, Pablo Klopfenstein a débuté son parcours musical en se consacrant au bebop, un style exigeant qu’il a exploré en profondeur afin d’affiner sa technique et son expression artistique. Bien que ses enseignants l’aient encouragé à s’orienter vers différents styles, il a choisi de persévérer s’investir pleinement dans le bebop pendant plusieurs années, ancrant ainsi son jeu dans les subtilités et l’énergie de ce courant.
Aujourd’hui, il a élargi son univers musical vers le jeu modal, inspiré par des figures telles que McCoy Tyner, tout en intégrant des influences issues de genres variés.
Tout au long de son parcours, sa créativité et sa quête d’authenticité lui ont permis de se démarquer. Doté de synesthésie, d’une excellente mémoire et d’une oreille absolue, il a la capacité d’apprendre et de mémoriser la plupart des morceaux dès la première écoute. Ces atouts lui ont permis de progresser rapidement et de forger une identité musicale solide et singulière.
A professional pianist, sideman and composer, Pablo Klopfenstein began his musical journey by devoting himself to bebop, a demanding style that he explored in depth to refine his technique and artistic expression. Although his teachers encouraged him to branch out into different styles, he chose to persevere with bebop for several years, anchoring his playing in its subtleties and energy.
Today, he has broadened his musical universe towards modal playing, inspired by figures such as McCoy Tyner, while integrating influences from a variety of genres.
Throughout his career, his creativity and quest for authenticity have set him apart. Gifted with synesthesia, an excellent memory and an absolute ear, he has the ability to learn and memorize most tunes on the first listen. These assets have enabled him to make rapid progress and forge a solid, singular musical identity.
